Fresh from our trip to Grenada, we’re still savoring the memories of a truly wonderful getaway. Each year, we make it a point to explore a new island, and this time, Grenada—known as the “Spice Island”—was the perfect choice. Famous for its production of nutmeg, mace, cinnamon, clove, and ginger, Grenada supplies nearly 40% of the world’s nutmeg.
Where We Stayed: Royalton Grenada
Our love for all-inclusive resorts led us to the Royalton Grenada. Conveniently located just two minutes from the airport, the resort impressed us with its open-air lobby, modern design, and a variety of on-site amenities. The main building housed a gym, spa, and several dining options, including Taj (Indian cuisine), Ma Maison (French cuisine), and Gourmet Marche (buffet).

We opted for a beachfront room with breathtaking views of the turquoise Caribbean waters. While we loved being steps from the beach, rainy days proved challenging as we had to walk to the main building for meals and activities. Thankfully, each room came equipped with a large umbrella, a thoughtful touch for the tropical weather.
Room & Beach Highlights
The rooms were beautifully updated, thanks to the resort’s 2019 renovation. We had a gorgeous view of the turquoise Caribbean water and the beach. We love a pool but we really love the beach. It was so nice to be able to walk downstairs and be right on the beach, plus it was so quiet! There were plenty of chairs and many times, we were some of only a handful of people on the beach. There were even a couple of occasions when I was the only one. One of my favorite ways to relax and self-care is to read a book on the beach while listening to the waves crash. My book of choice for this trip was The Beautiful People. If you like Lilly Pulitzer, Slim Aarons photography and 1960s glamour, this is a great read for you!

Relaxation & Local Exploration
Our main goal for this trip was relaxation, and we accomplished just that. While the rainy weather curtailed some of our plans, we embraced the sunny days on the beach and by the pools.

Our number one goal of this trip was to reset and relax and that’s exactly what we prioritized. We love exploring the new places we visit, but due to losing two days to rain, one of which it down poured all day, we opted to spend the sunny days soaking up the rays on the beach and at the pools.

The first day it rained, it was off and on so once there was a little clearing, we grab a cab and heading to the main area in St. George’s. Here you’ll find the spice market, the Spiceland Mall (if you’re looking for stores that sell more than souvenirs and jewelry, this is not the place for you). We explored for a bit but were getting hungry and decided to go to a restaurant our taxi driver had recommended, Sails. It was a lovely open air restaurant on the bay with delicious drinks and food. After lunch, we called the cab driver to head back to the Royalton. He gave us a great mini tour of the parish, pointing out landmarks and explaining how their schools, housing and citizenship by investment program works.

When it poured the next day, we were relegated to the room so we ordered room service and binged TV shows. The rain finally let up later in the afternoon (we were there during the rainy season), we headed to the main building where people were playing games, having drinks, using the gym and grabbing cups of coffee and pastries. If you had a room in the main building, this is when it would have been really great as you’d have been able to avoid getting wet. It was, however, a longer walk to the beach and pools on the good days.
What We Missed (But Plan to Do Next Time)
Although we couldn’t explore everything due to the rain, Grenada offers plenty of attractions, including:
- Waterfalls
- Rainforest trails
- Rum distillery tours
- Excursions to nearby islands
These are definitely on our list for a future visit!
Evening Entertainment
The resort had great entertainment and a vibrant atmosphere every night. We looked forward to hanging out there and chatting with other guests. One of my favorite things about vacationing is the people you meet (also a title of another great book I read on a trip to Siesta Key) and this time did not disappoint. It adds a personal touch to every destination.
The End of a Great Adventure
Even with the rain, we enjoyed every second of our visit. From its serene beaches to its friendly locals, the island truly lives up to its “Spice Island” reputation
Time to plan the next adventure!
