Styling Harvard: Midas Touch 2.0

Hi All! I’m back again with another round of “When in doubt, spray it gold“! I’m happy to say that my self appointed Midas Touch nickname is catching on quickly, ha!yellow fan - midas touchI have had this little fan for probably close to 12 years now. I remember buying it when I was a young college kid working at CVS. I think I paid $10 for it back then. It’s still working after all these years so I’d say I’ve gotten my $10 worth. Anyway, it’s been sitting in my basement for quite some time and has been on my “to spray” list for pretty much that whole time. I always have to have a can of gold spray paint in the house (sick, I know) and I’d just replenished my stock the other day so I figured it was a good time to stop procrastinating. I taped off the cord with some painters tape and 10 minutes later and my little yellow fan was now ultra glam.gold fan - midas touch I tried to spray around the openings in the back carefully but I didn’t want to leave that part yellow either. I thought I only got a little spray paint in there but when I went to plug it in after it was dry, it wouldn’t turn on. I was so bummed! Thank goodness for handy husbands. Jamie came home, turned it on, let it sit for 30 seconds and it came back on! Don’t tell him, but I think it was more dumb luck than electrical skills this time around. Redoing the office is next on my list of projects and this little baby is going to find its new home in there.

Quick story about how my spray painting addiction started. When I was a senior in high school, those Chinese takeout container looking purses were popular. I decided that I wanted a silver one to match my homecoming dress. Trouble was, I couldn’t find one. Young crafty Katie went down to the local Chinese restaurant and asked to purchase a container which they happily sold me for a whopping 10 cents!! I took it home, sprayed it with a couple of coats of silver spray paint and had my one of a kind homecoming purse. Of course I put it on the table and someone spilled their drink and it got a little ruined, but for 10 cents, I didn’t care! Once I saw how a can of spray paint could transform something ordinary, I was hooked. The end.

Happy Thursday, guys!!
