Welcome back to day 4 of the Christmas Home Tour! Today we’re on tree 5 and the living room! I love all my trees for different reasons but this one just makes the room feel so cozy. Like the office tree, it’s the same theme as last year: A cozy, rustic, cabin feel with lots of deer and plaids, hints of music notes and pops of leopard for a little whimsy! The leopard was actually inspired by the pillows on our leather recliners. I didn’t want to part with them for the holiday season and I just love the way leopard and plaid go together so they stayed put. I loved it so much last year, I had to do it again for 2015.Truth be told, there is a better spot we could put the tree where it wouldn’t be in the way so much. But then it’d be in a corner behind us and we didn’t want to have to turn to look at the tree. I like being able to relax on the couch and have the tree and TV right in my line of vision. It was Jame’s idea to put it next to the fireplace last year and I’m happy he suggested it. Since this is the only real tree in our house, we make sure when we’re shopping for it, we get one that’s somewhat skinny. Like last year, I wrapped the tree skirt in leftover burlap I had and tied it with a ribbon. Since space is tight there, I didn’t want to take up precious floor space with a tree skirt. Once the presents are piled on it, you can’t see it anyway.
I even have my cookies and milk all set for when Santa comes!
The room has touches of plaids (tartan mostly) throughout and of course lots of metallics. In the far corner, I added the deer silhouette painting my dad did for me last year and the awesome deer mirror I got on clearance after Christmas last year. The space still seemed a little empty but I didn’t know what to put there…until it hit me. The vintage toboggan in my parent’s basement. It’s been there since my parents bought the house back in 1990. It belonged to the previous owners and their kids were long grown up so I’m assuming it’s fairly old. It was a dirty and needed a good scrubbing. I removed the padded seat it came with and gave the wood a nice cleaning. I just love how it looks now! Next year I’m thinking of having the tree in the corner where the toboggan is but time will tell!
I missed having my vintage suitcase in the room and was about to move them to the basement for the recent of the holiday season until my sister had a genius idea! She kicked me out of the room for 10 minutes and when I came back, she’d done a little moving and rearranging with my recliners and I loved it! Not only did it open up the space more, everything looked less cramped and I was able to show off my Christmas cards I framed on the radiator.
Over the doorway to the hall, I hung fresh greens and used clothespins to attach all the Christmas cards we get. This is the first year I’m trying this trick and it definitely won’t be the last!
Tomorrow we’re moving into the dining room with two more trees! Have a great day!
