Styling Harvard Parties: 2018 Kentucky Derby

Hold your horses, folks, it’s just about time for my favorite party on one of my favorite days — Derby Day! I’m so excited to saddle up and prep for the 2018 Kentucky Derby!! This will be our 4th annual event and it gets more and more fun every year! To see previous years, click below. Thankfully, my camera and skills have improved since then!

2017          2016          2015

Since last year’s menu was perfect and a huge hit, I’m going the same route again. We’ll have all the Derby classics like Kentucky Hot Browns, Benedictine spread and Derby Pie, but we’ll also have some bow tie pasta and bourbon meatballs. We served up some fun drinks last year like 14 Hands Hot To Trot Kentucky Derby blend wine and lavender lemonade. One of my newest finds was this antique trophy. I’ve been trying to figure out what it was an award for but my Google skills are failing me this time. I love that our fireplace and mantle are the focal point when you walk into our house. I always have so much fun decorating it for different seasons and holidays.

We will be placing our bets for Win, Place, Show. We changed it up last year and used mason jars to collect the best for each category. $5 for win, $3 for place, $1 for show. Whoever guesses correctly wins (or splits) the pots.

I’m super excited for my hat this year! I’ll wait for the big reveal but if you know me, you’ll know it suits me perfectly. Check my Instagram on Derby Day to see! Here’s a picture of my mom and dad at last year’s party. They always get into the theme!

No party is complete without party favors! I love giving out nips of Kentucky Bourbon. I downloaded the printable neckties from Hostess With The Mostess. She has the best printables for so many parties but I love mixing the ones available for the Kentucky Derby.

If you host your own party, leave a comment below! I’d love to see what you do to celebrate. Giddy up!

xo,
