Styling Harvard Travels: Mexico 2017

Styling Harvard Travels: Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya

Hello Friends! It’s been quite some time since I’ve blogged. Summer and Fall were busy ones and I barely had time to Instagram, let alone sit down and write some blog posts. But things have thankfully slowed down now and I just bought myself a nice new laptop so my goal is to be back to blogging more.

Last week, Jamie and I were lounging beachside in Mexico. Now we’re snuggled up on the couch trying to keep warm. While we were there, I decided I wanted to take this blog in some new directions. Since this is supposed to be a life and style blog, I thought it would be good to share more than just home decorating posts. I love to shop and I really love a good deal. We also love to travel as often as possible. These are all things I’m passionate about and I would love to share with you.  So, let’s get started with a little recap of our Mexico 2017 trip!

We booked this trip about 2 weeks before we left. We had been throwing around ideas of where to go for a while and we finally settled on Mexico. We got a great deal and I kind of really loved the last minute booking. It made things feel a little more spontaneous.

We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel – Heaven Section, in Riviera Maya. We were in love immediately. The resort was amazing. We opted not to leave the resort for excursions this time because our main goal was to do nothing. We just wanted to relax and not be on any type of schedule. There was so much to do on the resort, we never even felt the need to want to leave. From yoga to rock wall climbing to stand up paddling boarding lessons to foam parties to nighttime entertainment, there was always something to do. Instead of one big beach, there were many small beaches, which we loved. They were more private that way and they all had amazing views and plenty of lounge chairs. We found a beach we loved as it was close to everything: the pools, restaurants, the main lobby, bars and our room (which was in the perfect location). There was waitstaff on the beach all day fulfilling drink requests and they were so friendly. By the end of our trip, we’d developed friendships with them and look forward to going back to see them again.

Our room was great! We had a Sky Terrace room which was 2 floors! Upstairs was an open roof deck with a jacuzzi tub and 2 lounge chairs. Downstairs was a balcony with a hammock and 2 chairs, along with the other basics of a hotel room.

I can’t stay enough about the staff around the resort. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Most spoke English but were happy when I tried to brush up on my Spanish skills as well. Some were even helpful when the words wouldn’t come to me and taught me some new words.

There’s plenty of shopping to be done around the resort as well. The Heaven side had a Hard Rock store, a sunglasses and jewelry store, a souvenir shop and a store to buy beach wear like sarongs and bathing suits. The Hacienda side (which is the family friendly part of the resort) also had Rock Shop and souvenir store in addition to a Pandora store, Swarovski and Billabong. There is plenty to do, no matter the time of day or night!

All in all, this trip was exactly what my soul needed. We unplugged (for the most part) and took the time to just relax and be with each other. We came back refreshed, recharged and ready to kick off the holiday season.
